Arab Potash Company (APC) has commissioned CAC ENGINEERING GMBH (CAC) to plan a new crystallization plant in southern Jordan. The project is part of APC's strategic Southern Expansion Project and represents the largest project in the history of CAC.

CAC Plans Largest Crystallization Plant in its History in Jordan

Arab Potash Company (APC) has commissioned CAC ENGINEERING GMBH (CAC) to plan a new crystallization plant in southern Jordan. The project is part of APC's strategic Southern Expansion Project and represents the largest project in the history of CAC.

The so-called third cold crystallization plant (CCP3) will enable APC to increase its annual production capacity by around one million tons of potassium chloride (KCl) to a total production of approximately 3.7 million tons. The plant is to be built in Ghor Al-Safi, around 130 kilometers south of Amman at the Dead Sea – one of the world's richest locations in terms of commodities.

Modern engineering for sustainable use of resources
The new crystallization plant uses state-of-the-art process technology to extract potassium from sea salt. The potassium is processed into potassium chloride, which serves as a basis for fertilizers, but also as feedstock for medical technologies and household chemicals.

CAC is providing planning services worth around 30 million euros. Services include the detail engineering of the crystallization plant with an annual production capacity of one million tons, a compaction plant with a processing capacity of 720,000 tons per year, the planning of warehouses with a capacity of 80,000 tons and three loading stations, each with a capacity of 500 tons, as well as support during the construction and commissioning phase on site.

"This project gives an example of German engineering on a global scale: state-of-the-art technology, safe plant concepts, and maximum product purity. We are proud to contribute to Jordan's industrial development with our expertise.“ says Jörg Engelmann, CEO and Managing Partner of CAC ENGINEERING.

For APC, this plant is a key component of its strategy to increase production capacity by 30 percent by 2030. "The use of state-of-the-art technologies for crystallization, drying and granulation in the new plant enables a qualitative leap in product quality. This allows us to produce high-purity potash with minimal impurities and insoluble components“, says Dr. Ma’en Nsour, CEO and President of Arab Potash Company.

Strategic partnership with Arab Potash
Arab Potash Company is the eighth largest potash producer worldwide and one of Jordan's most important industrial players. As part of its expansion, the company is focusing specifically on international technology partnerships. The Southern Expansion Project is one of the largest industrial projects in the Kingdom of Jordan. By investing in state-of-the-art technologies and highest quality standards, APC expects to increase the added value of national resources, promote the Jordanian economy, and create sustainable jobs.

Significance for CAC
For CAC, this contract marks the company’s entry into the Jordanian market and opens up new prospects in the Arab region. At the same time, in terms of investment volume, it is the largest engineering contract in the company's history and an important source of revenue for the years to come. “Such large-scale international projects are proof that German engineering expertise and sustainable plant concepts are in demand, also on a global level. “The project will be an enhancement to our company, both technically and culturally.”
