On 13/05/2019 20 of the 197 junior mathematicians are paying a visit to engineering services provider CAC. The visit to the Chemnitz-based company is part of the programme of the 58th Mathematics Olympiad, the final of which takes place in Chemnitz from 12 to 15 May 2019.

In the scope of the 58th Mathematics Olympiad 20 of the participants have the chance to gain an insight into the engineering activities of Chemieanlagenbau Chemnitz (CAC)

The 14 to 18 year old pupils from throughout Germany will gain an impression of the influence of mathematics on the planning and construction of industrial plant. “Ability in maths is a good basis for conducting exact science and engineering,” notes Jörg Engelmann, managing director of CAC. Split into small groups, the young mathematicians will gain an insight into plant planning, process and electrical engineering and the cost calculation department. “We are delighted to be able to welcome the maths finalists and give them an impression of how both the theoretical and practical aspects of mathematics are utilised in plant engineering,” says Engelmann.

Federal round of the Mathematics Olympiad
The federal round of the Mathematics Olympiad is being held in Saxony for the third time. The final takes place in Chemnitz from 12 to 15 May 2019. 197 young mathematicians, who have passed through three preselection rounds at school, regional and state level, leaving some 200,000 other starters behind them, will come to the city to find the best amongst them. 160 other guests – delegation members, co-ordinators, correctors and jurors – will also be in attendance.
